How immune system in patients with breast cancer respond to cancer progression?

Breast cancer affects one in nine women in the UK during their life time. While a significant progress has been made in developing therapies which improved patient survival, a significant proportion of breast cancer patients don’t respond to the current treatments or recur after the initial positive response. The project lays the foundation for the development of new approaches in treatment of breast cancer patients. It investigates how immune system of patients with different form of breast cancer changes during the progression of the disease.

We are recruiting 20 female participants to act as a control group. Selected volunteers will be required to visit the University of Birmingham once to donate a small volume of blood.

To be eligible to take part you must be a woman over the age of 55 and have no history of cancer or inflammatory diseases (or receive anti-inflammatory drugs).
